It should be noted that the bulk of these facilities are no longer in service. Much of the original lightguide network has been twice upgraded over the last seven years. In 1995 the NGLN (Next Generation Lightguide Network) project was undertaken to reduce the number of regenerators and converge many of the routes into a simplier layout. Around four years later AT&T entered into a partnership with three companies (PF.net, TouchAmerica and Cap Rock Communications) to build yet another next generation backbone.
This layout is a work in progress and is subject to change as new routes, information or observations become available.
