CFW seems to have lost the 558 exchange that was previously assigned here. The exchange has not poped up elsewhere and is left in place for historical refrence. Sprint PCS exchanges used to share CHVLVAXAW04 with CFW Intelos (Virginia PCS Alliance) but have since moved on to their own equipment. Also in the last two years Sprint Communications has added the 214 exchange to their POI here. Sprint doesn't have to backhaul the traffic very far since Sprint's Charlottesville POP is about a block south across the railroad tracks. AT&T and MCI have their POPs near by as well.

Finally, U.S. Cellular has MTSOs in Lynchburg and Roanoke. Like Alltel the Charlottesville "switches" are just methods of backhualing into the Lynchburg MTSOs.
