The Charlottesville POP originally had a networkMCI logo on the door along with a number of MCI trucks. Both have since disapeared since the bankrupcy of WorldCom. While the Charlottesville POP appears to be new, the supporting repeaters seem to be of SouthernNET (Telecom*USA) vintage. The original Charlottesville POP may have been colocated in the main Sprint Local Charlottesville central office (tandem office for the Charlottesville LATA). An MCI FCC two way license (KNNK989) has and address and general coordinate location for the Sprint tandem office.
Additionally, its is now suspected that fiber leaves the Charlottesville POP for the Lynchburg POP/switch (haven't determined which it is) via Rt. 29. Also, MCI fiber was also observed heading south along Rt. 29 from Lynchburg into Pittslyvania County (confirmed). At this time it is unknown where this fiber goes once it crosses the Campbell/Pittslyvania County line but the likely destination is the POP in Danville. All of which will be detailed in seperate route pages in the future.
