For many years the Richmond MTSO also acted as the MTSO for the
Norfolk-Newport News-Virginia Beach market via backhaul through the Sprint POP
in Newport News.
However, many of those backhauled exchanges are now working off of the "newly"
built Norfolk MTSO
(really upgraded field office).
I'm not sure why the CLLI code for this office violates the naming standards (there is no E in Richmond...) but that seems to be the new trend with wireless and CLECs.
The 246, 247, 378, 878 and 926 exchanges are new in the last two years or so.
