Despite the size of the office, Wilmington was not a tandem office until 10/2001 when Bell Atlantic installed a Nortel DMS 200 to provide relief for the Market Street tandems (72T and 90T) in downtown Philadelphia and the Fort Washington tandem in the northeastern Philadelphia suburbs. Unlike other tandem splits which usually break out only IntraLATA traffic (such as the Pikesville or Arlington/Chevy Chase tandem projects), the Wilmington relief project shifted Intra and InterLATA traffic to the Wilmington tandem.

Office has a large rectangular structure on its rooftop that might have housed microwave antenna to points unknown at this time. Currently it holds a few paging antenna. Office also has a really ugly early 80s style mural near what seems like an extension to the office from the same era. Note in the detail it looks like a circuit board.

Please note despite the two signs on the walls this is a view of the offices rear. Traffic, time and circumstances prevented a shot from the front which is plastered with Verizon signs (this must be where all of the spare signs are sent). Maybe another trip...
